GolfPromote Expands Ownership Group with the Højgaard Twins and Business Profiles
New co-owners will help secure the future of the ECCO Tour and Danish professional golf
GolfPromote, the company behind the ECCO Tour as well as Danish tournaments on the HotelPlanner Tour and DP World Tour, is expanding its ownership group with four new profiles from Danish business and international golf.
The new co-owners are:
- Jens Lange, CEO of Trust Forsikring
- Brian Nielsen, Group CEO of DTD Group
- Nicolai Højgaard, professional golfer
- Rasmus Højgaard, professional golfer
The company was founded in 2001 by Flemming Astrup and has since developed into a key player in Danish professional golf.
Since its establishment, GolfPromote has organized 313 professional tournaments, hosted 494 Pro-Ams, and contributed to distributing approximately DKK 285 million in prize money.
Today, the company operates the ECCO Tour, runs the Danish HotelPlanner Tour event, and co-organizes the Danish Golf Championship in collaboration with the European Tour Group.
For more than two decades, the ECCO Tour has served as a vital stepping stone for Danish golfers on their journey toward international golf — including several players who have gone on to compete on both the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour.
According to Flemming Astrup, the expansion of the ownership group is first and foremost about ensuring continuity and long-term development.
“The ECCO Tour is the cornerstone of our DNA and has played an enormous role in the development of Danish golf. That is why it has been crucial for me to ensure that the tour will continue to be run with its heart in the right place,” says Flemming Astrup.
He will continue in the day-to-day management of the company, while GolfPromote now takes the first steps in a long-term generational transition, with a focus on further developing and strengthening the organization in the years ahead.
“No one will have the same opportunity to start from scratch as I did in 2001. That is why it is important that we already begin thinking long-term and gradually build the next generation around the company and the ECCO Tour,” says Flemming Astrup.
At the same time, ECCO will continue its commitment to the ECCO Tour, where the company in 2028 can celebrate its 25th anniversary as title sponsor:
“At ECCO, we naturally wish to continue supporting the ECCO Tour going forward. The tour has become highly important for many young Danish and Nordic golfers, and we remain committed to helping provide them with the best possible environment to develop into the stars of tomorrow,” says ECCO’s Timo Vollrath.
Today, GolfPromote collaborates with more than 80 partners and annually hosts more than 30 partner and networking events across Denmark, as well as several abroad. At the same time, around two million users visit the Danish.Golf platform every year.
It is a particular source of pride for Flemming Astrup that Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaard have chosen to engage in the project alongside their careers on the PGA Tour.
“Rasmus and Nicolai showed great enthusiasm for the project from our very first meeting, and I am incredibly pleased with the group of people we are now bringing together around GolfPromote and the ECCO Tour.”
New Co-Owners See Strong Opportunities for the Future
At the same time, the four new co-owners see significant opportunities in continuing to develop Danish professional golf:
“The ECCO Tour has had tremendous importance for Danish golf over many years. It is a project built on strong values and great passion, and that combination is exactly what makes it interesting for me to become part of the ownership group,” says Jens Lange.
Brian Nielsen has personally witnessed how far players coming through the ECCO Tour can go:
“I recently attended The Players Championship, where no fewer than eight players in the field had previously competed on the ECCO Tour. That is proof of how much the ECCO Tour means for Danish and Nordic golf. GolfPromote has demonstrated that through dedication and strong relationships, it is possible to create events and development environments at an international level. I very much look forward to contributing to that development and helping secure a strong foundation for many years to come.”
Nicolai Højgaard himself managed to win on the ECCO Tour before his success took him further:
“The ECCO Tour has been an important part of my journey toward international golf, so it means a great deal to give back and help secure opportunities for future generations.”
Rasmus Højgaard adds:
“We both know how important the ECCO Tour has been — and continues to be — for Danish golf and for our own development. That is why it felt completely natural to become involved in the project.”
GolfPromote will continue exploring opportunities to maintain both the DP World Tour and the HotelPlanner Tour in Denmark, while emphasizing that the ECCO Tour will remain the company’s primary focus area going forward.
